Edwardian Delicate Etruscan Wire Work Hat Pin. Rolled Gold over Brass. You can see the brass at the pin point area where it has worn. That is the only flaw in this 5-1/2" long Hat Pin. The top is comprised of very delicate wire work and measures 1/2" in diameter. Excellent condition for a piece of this age. The Edwardian period began when Queen Victoria’s eldest son, Edward VII born November 9, 1841, became King of England; his reign ended in May 6, 1910. This period saw the first phases of the larger wide brimmed hat; although there were very many hat styles that were popular during this era, we remember it mostly for the wide brimmed Edwardian hat style. This era also spawned the Gibson Girl hairstyle which also generated very wide brimmed hats that required hat pins to keep them perched upon the head. 1860s.

1908 Indian Stickpin. Patriotic fraternal organization called The Improved Order of Red Men which was originally known as the Sons of Liberty. There is an Indian wearing a headdress in relief with an enameled red, white and blue, stars and stripes background. Below the Indian it reads; IMP.ORM and T.O.T.E. (I have been unable to identify what TOTE stands for). The fraternity traces its origins back to 1765 and is ascended from the Sons of Liberty. These patriots concealed their identities and worked "underground" to help establish freedom and liberty in the early Colonies. They patterned themselves after the great Iroquois Confederacy and its democratic governing body. Their system, with elected representatives to govern tribal councils, had been in existence for several centuries. The Improved Order of Red Men is a Fraternal Organization established in the Baltimore, Maryland in 1834. Their rituals and regalia are modeled after those used by native people of North America. After the War of 1812 the name was changed to the Society of Red Men and in 1834 to the Improved Order of Red Men. They kept the customs and terminology of Native Americans as a basic part of the fraternity. Some of the words and terms may sound strange, but they soon become a familiar part of the language for every member. The Improved Order of Red Men is similar in many ways to other major fraternal organizations in the United States. Prominent Americans Who have been Members: George Washington - Samuel Adams - Thomas Jefferson - Patrick Henry - John Hancock - Richard M. Nixon - Thomas Paine - Paul Revere - Theodore Roosevelt - Warren G. Harding - Franklin D. Roosevelt. Now back to the stickpin. It is in very good to excellent condition... slight bend to the pin arm behind the attached indian piece. It measures 3" x 1/2". It's marked on the back Pat May 1908.

Vintage Garnet Rhinestone Cross Cravat/Stickpin. This was sold to me as an Antique but I believe this is from the 1940's when riveted jewelry was the 'thing' due to war time issues. This riveting was used on war materials, in the early 40' and the manufacturers acquired the machinery and techniques to make parts for war machinery. As many costume jewelry manufacturers received large contracts for such materials from the government, they had to have this capability. Joseff of
Hollywood produced lots of highly specialized machined parts, and so did Trifari, and many others. After the war was over, they had the riveting machinery and applied it to costume jewelry. It was fast and less labor-intensive than the hand-assembled and hand-soldered pieces. From the front, the riveted jewelry looked almost as good as the hand-crafted, too. So here we have this cross that looks older than it is. These are prong set garnet colored rhinestones --- not garnets. This measures 2-1/2" x 3/8". This is in good condition.
