Lucite,
a crystal clear plastic, was introduced by DuPont Corp. in 1937.
Being more cost effective, Lucite replaced Bakelite by the 1950's,
and was used in production of costume jewelry as early as 1940.
The most collectible Lucite jewelry is of course, the "Jelly
Belly" figurals with a central Lucite "stone".
During WWII
and through to the 1960's, the pearlized faux moonstone jewelry
as quite popular and came in an assortment of colors and shapes.
Also popular were the Thermoplastic jewelry that you'll find
on Lisner, Coro and plastic pages. This page focuses more on
the pearlized jewelry which has yet to reach it's appreciation
by collectors and perhaps is the best investment jewelry among
plastic jewelry right now.
