This original Erté gouache of a costume for La Planete Fémina, Présidente du Conseil Féminissima, is dated 1917. It is not a print, but an original sketch. It is also impossible to photograph, beceause it is framed behind glass in a silver matted frame which is 1 1/2" deep. Erté himself was responsible for the framing. The gouache with silver overlay is signed in the lower right in ink by Erté. The artist told me, when I visited with him in 1974 in Paris, that it was most unusual to find an original painting of his dated before the Twenties! The gouache measures 10" X 6 1/2". The matted silver frame is 2 1/2" wide. Exceedingly rare! For once, this is not an exaggeration. #2176 Contact me for the price of this marvel: Ginger Moro modmoro@earthlink.net

This collage can be seen in the France chapter of "European Designer Jewelry". Sonia was a painter who created textiles, fashion, and interior design as well as murals with her painter husband Robert for the 1937 Expo Internationale. #2134

Four pochoir "simultaneous" textiles designs from this vintage plate from the album, "Sonia Delaunay: ses peintures, ses objets, ses tissus simultanés, ses modes". Sonia applied this theory to fashion, textiles, interior design, and two pavillion murals for the 1937 Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques in Paris. Signed lower right.

Plate #29 pochoir gouache hand-colored print from the "Compositions Couleurs Idées album by Sonia Delaunay, 1930.
#1839 Price: $900
|
Large format, 18" X 24", hand -colored gouache pochoir print of four designs by Sonia Delaunay from her 1925 deluxe album, "Sonia Delaunay, ses peintures, ses objets, ses tissus simultanés, ses modes". The pochoir process was a stencil technique of print reproduction permiting flexibility from print to print. Since the gouache was applied by hand, there was a large potential for variation, and one-of-a kind prints. The medium paint flowing into the stencil provided a delicious freshness, unavailable in other reproductive processes. With the onset of the Depression in the Thirties, this hand-coloring process became too costly, and was replaced by the silk screen serigraph technique aplied by a machine press, instead of craftsmen manual skills. #1840 Price: $1550

Plate #32, is one of 6 original plates available from the "Compositions" album. Each rare plate is a hand-colored gouache textile design by Sonia Delaunay.created in 1930 in Paris.

The album cover, "Compositions Couleurs Idées" by Sonia Delaunay is a hand-colored pochoir created in 1930 in Paris. The contents of the deluxe album (10"X 13") were all hand-colored gouache prints by Delaunay who was dubbed "The Mother of European Modernism" by Robert Hughes, art critic of Time magazine. In the 1980s, the entire Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris was devoted to an exhibition of the paintings, textile designs, accessories, and clothes, murals for the Exposition Internationale of 1937, and other media work by Sonia and her husband, Robert Delaunay. Altho' the plates of this album were textile designs, Mme. Delaunay assured me in 1970 when I interviewed her in Paris, that they were essentially experiments in "Simultanéisme", the color theory the Delaunays were exploring in the 20th century. #1837 Price: $900
