in 1950 put out a little booklet with their Mustard Seed Jewelry which they referred to as The Story of "Your Mustard Seed ". They seem to be the originator of the Mustard Seed Jewelry. This little booklet contains the quote from the Bible, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed-nothing shall be impossible unto you." Matt. 17:20. It continues with:Several years ago we realized that the tensions, uncertainties and problems of life in these troubled times were weighing heavily upon us.
We were easily discouraged, irritable, and surrounded by fears and a feeling of insecurity. Life (instead of being a happy experience) was becoming an actual burden. We faced each new day with pessimism, instead of with hope and confidence. This was no way to live. We decided to do something about it.
Fortunately, we met a minister who preached a practical, every-day use of Faith in solving problems. Many people were following this practice with excellent results.
So we started to apply religious Faith to our own problems. We prayed. We put our problems into God's hands and believed He would show us the solution.
We memorized scriptures that tell of the power of Faith, and we repeated them often.
Each day, we took time to sit relaxed and quiet, letting God's peace enter our minds and hearts. Soon, our problems weren't nearly so large or complex. We slept better; life was brighter.
But it takes time to transform negative thoughts into positive thoughts - fear thoughts into Faith thoughts. We were improving, but sometimes the old doubts returned. Often, when we needed to be calm, we didn't have the time for meditation necessary to strengthen our Faith.
It was then we began to feel the need for something to remind us--quickly--of the power of our Faith over every-day problems.
Although we talked and thought about it often, several months passed before we actually knew what we wanted our reminder to be.
Suddenly, one evening while we were sitting quietly, this text from St. Matthew came to us:
"If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed ... nothing shall be impossible unto you."
We wanted a mustard seed for our reminder!
We found some of the small, dark mustard seeds, such as were used in Biblical times.
We looked at the small, dark seed. Just that tiny bit of Faith is all you need!
If carried alone, the seed would be easily lost. So we decided to encase it in something transparent and mount it, to make it bright and beautiful.
Although we made mistakes and had countless failures we believe we could find a way. It took most of our spare time and money but, after lengthy experiments and numerous designs, we finally made the first Mustard Seed Remembrancer.
The Remembrancer is a clear, transparent ball containing a genuine dark mustard seed. The three step metal mounting signifies Faith, Hope, and Charity.
Why did we call it a Remembrancer? In ancient times a Remembrancer was an official in the Court of the Exchequer whose duty was to remind other officials of important events.
Our little mustard seed was to remind us of the importance of Faith in our daily lives, so we called it a Mustard Seed Remembrancer. while we were working on our Remembrancer, many of our friends became interested, and they, too, wanted a Faith reminder. Now thousands of persons in all parts of this country and abroad carry the Mustard Seed Remembrancer or wear it attached to bracelets, key rings, pins and other jewelry. A great many of them write to tell us how the Faith, which the Remembrancer brings to mind, helps them with their own problems. It is our sincere hope that your Mustard Seed Remembrancer will be, to you, a reminder of the power of your faith.
