| According to Lillian Baker's 100 Years of Collectible Jewelry. Screw backs were introduced in very early 1900s and were popular 1908 to 1930s. After 1930 the ear clip was introduced and it became popular though with lots of wearers the screw back remained the favorite. The pierced hook type were the first and were usually hollow gold, then came the wire post type. The latter were after 1900. |

1910-1930 Double Sided Moth Encased in Glass Pendant. This is a very beautiful and hard to find piece. These particular butterfly pieces were made in England as far back as the late 1890's. This one has a circulation of the early 1900's. This piece is in very good condition for its age. The pendant is made of silver metal (not tested for sterling - no markings). Double sided glass encased - there are two lovely moths with dried flowers . The whitish background appears to be silken flax as you can see individual strands that look like course hair. One side a yellow moth and the other side brown butterfly. The chain is not old and has been added. Fine sterling snake chain measuring 20". The case that holds the moths is 2" x 1-1/2". 1920's Deco era Pink Beads of
various shapes and shades of pink at the end of opalescent
pink beads. This is a SHORT strand and only measures 13" and so it's
most likely for a young lady or very small neckline. I'd highly recommend
restringing...and at that point you could lengthen this with a few nice
spacer beads. These beads are gorgeous and sure to please any bead lover
and well worth the effort of restringing. (If you want restringing,
I can recommend someone to do it for you...so don't worry about WHO
can do this. The cost will be reasonable too.)

I've researched and researched and the only thing I can come up with for this pin is that it is a low end Art Nouveau item. According to Roseann Ettinger Popular Jewelry 1840-1940, "The new craftsman preferred the use of glass and semiprecious stones. There became a movement for man against machine and an apparent craft revival." The stone in THIS pin is identical to the stone shown in the pin in her book. I welcome any further information you may have to offer in regards to this stone. The pin is handset in an openbacked silver metal. It's pronged all the way around. C Clasp. Measures about 1" by 1/2" high. Excellent condition.
